Thirty-five.

Each year when my birthday rolls around I’m more likely to think about how my year has been and where I’m at in life than about partying and gifts. Today, as I turn thirty-five, I feel like recording my year. This is my 35. My four kids are aged 3, 6, 8 and 10. They’re about to enter preschool (with Tina Chandler), 1st grade, 3rd grade and 5th grade, respectively. This year will be weird because Addie will join Anders at Saratoga Shores where they’ll both be in the Advanced Learning Labs (ALL) program. Aani will be starting the Chinese …

A Sunday in the Life of a Bishopric Counselor

Since being called into the bishopric, I have a much greater appreciation of the work and time that go into keeping a ward running. Our bishop spends many more hours serving than me or the other counselor do and bears a much greater burden but our part is still more than expected at times. Today was not an uncommon Sunday. It went like this. 5:00 am: Wake up, see if the ward bulletin info has been texted or emailed to me (that’s one of my responsibilities), it wasn’t so I went back to bed. Oh how I love my bed. …

Minecraft Coloring Picture

Tonight my son was working on tracing a Minecraft image of Steve and a Skeleton in Photoshop and when he had just finished, the laptop battery died and he lost it all. He was pretty upset and it was bedtime so I decided to trace it for him after he went to bed. Here it is for your (and his) enjoyment 🙂

Making a $28 Stand Up Desk

I’m a pretty sedentary guy. I tend to sit down for about 14 or 15 hours each day. Wow. That’s sad. Anyway, at work I’ve been sitting on an exercise ball for the last couple of months and I’ve enjoyed it. I’m sure it hasn’t done much for me but it makes me feel like I’m making an effort. Unfortunately, the ball I was using wasn’t mine and I had to give it back. I had been thinking about the idea of a stand up desk for some time and a co-worker told me about people making cheap standup desks …

Thirty-Four

As of yesterday I’m 34. I thought I’d write a few things about what’s going on in life right now so I can look back at how life was at 34. I wrote this post here a little, there a little, so it’s rather random and needs some re-formatting but who has time for that? Facts: Life is made up of family, work and faith. Family is good. After nine years of being a dad, I’m definitely still trying to figure it out. I do good sometimes and poorly others. I’ve learned that raising good kids is all about consistency, …

Marathon? Check.

One of the items on my bucket list has been to run a marathon. On Pioneer Day this year (July 24th), I was able to run the Deseret News Marathon in Salt Lake. Here are some highlights. I trained by running mostly just on Saturdays, doing long runs while Anders rode his bike along side me. He’s a champ. The longest I ran before the marathon was 18 miles. I tried running longer but had all kinds of pains and didn’t want to be injured for the race. I didn’t really ever run during the week. Because running is hard. …

Cross Fit Day 3

Yesterday, July 21, I attended a 90 minute beginner’s course for all newer cross fitters. It was pretty simple – we mostly just learned proper form and technique on the nine core exercises. I don’t think I remember them all but I know there was the squat (air squat), forward squat, shoulder squat, push press, dip press, sumo press, medicine ball press, dead lift, wall ball and . . . That’s what I remember anyway. At the end we did AMRAP for 7 minutes of 5 pullups, 10 pushups and 15 squats. My muscles simply died on the pushups. I …
